Family Life – February 2012

February 6, 2012

Sometimes, we take decisions that are far-reaching and could have detrimental effects on our lives as well as the lives of those whom we say we love. Many people, who have experienced emotional wounds and are in pain, have had those wounds inflicted by their “loved ones”. Much harm has been done all in the name of love.

Segun’s Story

My wife, Nike, lost her mother when she was ten years old. Nike was the youngest child and the only daughter of her parents. My father-in-law who was in his early thirties when his wife died never remarried; he poured all his energy and love into his children. He treated all his children equally but everybody knew Nike was the apple of his eyes.

I met Nike when we were both in university in England. I really liked Nike and thankfully, Read the rest of this entry »

EFFECTING CHANGE THROUGH PRAYER by Timi Ologunoye

February 6, 2012

Every month is designed for something new. The month of February is usually known for fasting and prayers in the Redeemed Christian church of God. You have seen some glories before; but God is saying ‘An unusual change is going to happen to you this month’. Remember not the former things, behold, I will do a new thing (Isa.43:19). May the new thing reserved for this month show forth in your life as you faithfully fast and pray through the remaining 25days of February.

Many have always had this wrong assumption that one doesn’t need to learn how to pray, that you learn how to pray by praying. You must understand that skill is a fundamental requirement in any field of human endeavour. Every assignment requires some form of training to make it happen, whether formal or informal. This is why Jesus’ disciples told their master, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples” (Lk. 11:1). In like manner, we need to be taught how to pray. It is not the length of prayer that determines its effectiveness, but the quality of prayers; and you need knowledge to pray quality prayers. The Bible says in James 4:3 “Ye ask, and receive not because ye ask amiss”. That means there is a right way to ask. You need to press the right buttons for your prayers to be answered.

The altar of prayer is the altar of change. Read the rest of this entry »

The Miracle of Christmas- Peace, Hope and Love By Timi Ologunoye

December 16, 2011

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (Jn. 3:16).

Jesus is the reason for the season and he is the epitome of true love. Your days will be bright and your heart will be light. You will experience possibilities of faith. Hope will make things work for you. Love will beautify you. As the birth of Christ brought light to a dark world, may your darkness be lightened this season in Jesus’ name. Amen

The Christmas story is an account retold year after year, yet it never loses its magnificence; it never ceases to fill our hearts with wonder. Christmas is about the Lord our Creator fleshing out his promise to save the world from sin. That gift is named Jesus. Christmas is the celebration of love, generosity, benevolence, kindness, brotherhood, and familial bonding, and the celebration of the joy, peace, and security that those things promote. May the three certainties of Christmas which are –peace, hope, and love fill your heart this season. Amen.

Unlike any other baby, the one born that night in Bethlehem was unique in all of history. Jesus had no glory flashing around him as he entered the world through birth. Though hundreds of years of advertising through Scripture announced his arrival, there were no long lines waiting to greet him. He should have chosen a palace of the wealthiest and most powerful kingdom on earth with deluxe features for birth. But he chose the meekest womb of earth. He preferred a barn for birth. He was born in a place where the animals are fed their food. A message from God to show that He recognizes the lowly. Read the rest of this entry »

Infidelity

December 16, 2011

It is not uncommon in this part of the world for relatives to pressure men into taking second wives when the current wife is having problems getting pregnant. Understandably, they do this out of concern and desire to help the situation, but infidelity (adultery) never solves a problem; sin can never produce life, it leads to death.

The room for a second wife does not exist in the plan of God for any man; otherwise he would have made two or more Eves for Adam. Not even the excuse of childlessness should make any man take such a step. In creating the institution of marriage, God said “It is not good that man be alone, I will make a helper comparable to him” (Gen 2:18). The first and, most important reason for marriage is to provide through life; it goes beyond having children, though this is good and desirable.

When a couple get married and it seems that they are unable Read the rest of this entry »

Family Life – November 2011

November 13, 2011

A relationship cannot develop unless you are truly free to be yourself and you cannot be yourself entirely unless you know that partner accepts you unconditionally and will always be there. Marriage cannot be founded only on romantic love. It needs to be founded on carefully developed intimacy.

Ronke’s story
Ronke, a final year chemistry student and girl about town, was regarded by her peers as the most popular girl on campus. To many her beauty was divine. As she walked down the road, she always received the admiration of everyone. Ronke believed that there was no love without money and her motto was: “What’s love got to do with it?” She was often heard saying, “This love thing is not for me! What is love anyway? Will love put a roof over my head, or buy me the latest cars? I beg you to leave me.
Once the money is right, love is guaranteed!

It was not surprising that Ronke had a string of admirers who Read the rest of this entry »

THINK HEAVEN- ‘Timi Ologunoye

November 13, 2011

“Next to the idea of God, the idea of heaven is the greatest idea that has ever entered into the heart of man, woman, or child”- Professor Peter Kreeft.

All men, lost or saved, have a God given sense of something beyond this life.
What comes to your mind when Heaven is mentioned? What do you think Heaven will be like? Have you ever wondered? What do you know about Heaven? Have you ever been there? If you were asked about what and where Heaven is, what would you say? How would you explain or describe it? Does the thought about Heaven get you depressed at times? Be honest with yourself.

Do you long to go to Heaven? I think that most of us would respond with a loud YES. “To depart and be with Christ is far better than staying on a sin cursed earth” (Phil. 1:23) but why is everyone afraid of death? Tragically, there are many who will like to go to heaven but will never get there. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven(Matt.7:21,NIV) and to remain indifferent to this fact is Read the rest of this entry »
