“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” Matthew 5:16
Your true purpose on earth is to make your light shine. You are expected to function as a burning and a shining light that makes the name of the Lord known in turning others from wickedness unto righteousness. You cannot live out this responsibility unless you make a personal decision and commitment to manifest the glory, wisdom and excellence of God as a blessing to your world.
“For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God” Rom. 8:19. The world will not only be amazed at your life and changed for the better because of the blessings and privileges that Christianity offers, but as a result of your passion to see the kingdom of God established in your family, street, work place, school and everywhere you maintain contact with men and women around the world.
It is important, child of God, that you are mindful of your new nature. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light” I Pet. 2:9. God wants you to recognize your new identity. He wants you to see the picture of the new you and consistently live that way. As a Christian you are an ambassador of Christ in this world who is ordained by God to illuminate your world with the light of God and be a blessing. As Christ’s ambassador, your conduct as a Christian must now reflect your new personality in Christ Jesus which is the nature of righteousness.
Your true purpose is expressed when:
1. You Serve The Lord With All Your Heart
“My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways” Prov. 23:26. The Lord wants your heart and your eyes to observe His ways. He wants you to serve Him and follow Him with whole-hearted devotion. He wants you to trust Him with your life and future without reservation. He is either Lord of all or He is not Lord at all! Stop living for yourself and start living for Him. He must have the final say in all that concerns you. Make a definite commitment to live for Him and do His will only, and teach others to do the same. Let the Lord become the personality of your deepest affection. Beloved, nothing compares to living for Jesus! The Bible says, “…He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again” 2Cor. 5:15. Let the Lord have a say in all that you do; follow His word and yield to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. You will experience maximum fulfilment and joy in life when your passion, emotions, desires and appetites are centred on Christ and the propagation of the Gospel.
2. You Are Fervent In Soul Winning
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” Mk. 16:15. People are God’s greatest assets on earth. Until you start winning people for Jesus, you are not involved in God’s asset building. Soul winners are precious and influential people in the sight of God because they are fervent in God’s number one business. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good that publisheth salvation; that says unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!” Isa. 52:7 The Lord is always reaching out to the unsaved, to touch their lives with His power and glory; but He can only do so through you. Therefore, you must get rid of all distracting influences and fervently serve the Lord as a soul winner. Make up your mind to partner with God in sharing the Gospel with those in your sphere of contact. This is the right thing to do; it is God’s commandment. “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness, as the stars forever and ever” Dan. 12:3.
3. You Live Out God’s Love
“…God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him” 1Jn. 4:16. Love is the highest and topmost quality of God’s character and the highest revelation of Christianity is Christ in you, living out His love in you. We are the oasis of His love in a harsh and cruel world. Let your life be an outshining of God’s great unconditional and self-giving love. God’s love is already in you from the very day you gave your life to Christ. It is now your responsibility to allow this love to drive you into action for the kingdom, the same way it inspired God to give His best for the salvation of the whole world: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” Jn. 3:16. God’s love in you should compel you to give your all to the Lord and this includes reaching out with the message of salvation to the lost , hurting and dying around you and beyond. It is time to dedicate yourself to serving and helping others; especially God’s people. When you preach Christ, preach His love and don’t condemn anyone. The judgements of God are real, but don’t judge anyone. The judgemental message doesn’t produce lasting results. It’s His love message that works. It wasn’t God’s judgement, condemnation or destruction that compelled Him to reach out and deliver humanity from the bondage of sin and eternal condemnation but His unfailing and unconditional love. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” Rom. 5:8.
Now that you know your true purpose as a child of God, go on to act on it! God’s word is all powerful- having the ability to produce in you what it talks about. You must begin to consciously practice your true purpose. It’s your responsibility to take charge of your heart and stop yourself from veering off course. “And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares” Lk. 21: 34. This is not the time to vacillate or cower, but a time to focus on doing the Master’s will and fulfil God’s purpose for your life. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” 1 Cor.. 15: 58.
Your true purpose will stand!
