“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid” Matt. 5:13-14.
The good life is the kind of life that anyone would like to live. It is a goal and a dream that both kings and common men alike seek after. The desire of everyone in every generation. For many, ‘the good life’ is all about happiness and all that comes with it such as material prosperity, pleasure and popularity but Jesus in Luke 12:15 discredited this claim when “He said unto them, ” Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth”. You will notice that the most wealthy and famous people are not always the happiest.
So, what is a good life? Find below twelve (12) powerful keys that can help you achieve the good life that you seek:
1. Be ever grateful
Life is a privilege not a right and therefore you must remain grateful for the gift of everyday. Gratitude is the flight to altitude and you can never drop in altitude unless you drop in gratitude. You cannot stop gaining altitude unless you stop expressing gratitude. Gratitude teaches contentment which cheaply qualifies you for next lifting. It destroys pride and is the key to continuous supply of grace. Grateful people are never ambitious or contentious. Because they realized that they didn’t struggle to arrive where they are and will never have to climb up the next level by themselves.
2.Live Right, Walk Right
Rather than struggling to impress people, strive to do what is right. When you keep doing what is right, you will escape the pressure of pleasing people. Right doing is what gives you your right place. Righteousness is the escape route from all forms of danger. Evil traps, but righteousness delivers. Prov. 11:4 says “…righteousness delivereth from death.”As long as you keep doing what is right, you will never fear any evil. Those who do right things don’t ever fear been faulted by men because doing it right has already earned them God’s approval. Bother less about traps of the enemy, just maintain a righteous walk (Dan. 6:22). You can’t be trapped by evil when you walk right.1 Pet 3:13-15, Ps 34:18, 19.
3.Live Sincere, Stay Faithful
Faithfulness is God’s demand; it is God’s yard stick for man’s promotion. It is the ladder for climbing up. Unfortunately, it is only men with a sense of stewardship that can be faithful. They see themselves as caretakers who must give account for the things committed into their hands. God honours sincerity because it is a major ingredient of integrity. Sincerity comes with openness, transparency and nakedness without shame. It is admittance of oneself the way one is. When a sincere person errs, his judgment is usually measured with kindness and mercy. The greatest and heaviest anger of God is towards the hypocrite. God hates hypocrisy to a curse! Don’t be a hypocrite. Don’t have anything hidden because there is nothing covered today that will not be unveiled tomorrow. It is better for you to be known today than to be discovered tomorrow. Live naked not minding the feeling of people around you.
Live in a way that nothing else will be discovered of you different from what people already know about you. The sincere will never be abandoned nor dumped. He is ever in the mercy beneficiary list of God.
4.Mind your Lifestyle
What you are remembered for is not much of what you wear but much of what you did and how you lived. The way you live is more important than the way you work. It is your lifestyle that gives value to your “workstyle”. You may be hard-working and lack respect if your life doesn’t represent the core values of life. It is better to rather spend more time modeling your life, than concentrate on work at the expense of your life. Jesus said “For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”Mk.8:36.
The goal of an unhappy world is earthly treasure. Jesus says “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal” Matt. 6:19-20. Men are eager to receive, but reluctant to give. Paul referring to a statement of Jesus says in Acts 20:35 that “…it is more blessed to give than to receive”.
The needs of man are so enormous that giving is almost impracticable without his boldness to reach out. There will always be justifiable reasons to hold back. It takes boldness to break that chain. It is a chain because whatever you will not give is holding down your blessing without you knowing. Your boldness to give defines your broadness to receive. Stretch your giving to spread your reception. Your receiving cannot be limited for as long as your giving is not limited.
It is poverty mentality to keep thinking receiving. Thinking giving is the way to go. Thinking giving is planning and programming for what to do with what you’ll receive. Think giving and you’ll never need to bother about what is to come because receiving is natural sequence to giving. Thinking of what to give is what moves God to put what to give into your hands. Waiting for convenience to give is getting deeper in poverty without knowing. The best time to give is when it is not convenient. The best offering to give is one that is inconvenient, that is what is described as sacrifice.
6.Keep the Flow of the Spirit
The Spirit of God is the fountain for all wonders. The thicker His presence in your life, the more impactful His effect. Saturate your life by praying in the Spirit and by speaking the Word of God into your atmosphere. Keep making moves to generate waves. Movement of the Spirit is the gateway to diverse signs and wonder. Gen 1:1-3.Creative miracles results whenever and wherever the Spirit moves. Keep the Spirit on the move to maintain the flow of the signs in you and around you. Acts.2:1,6
Learning is the only way to know something and anything. Ever learning is ever leading – leading not in the sense of position but in the sense of result. Learning is all about changing position. Learners are never left behind.
They are usually in the fore front. Learning connects man to qualitative life. The blessings that learning offers include: Rest (Matt.11:28,29), Shame free life (11.Tim.2:15), Strength (Dan.11:32; Prov.24:5,6), Freedom (Jn.8.32),Wisdom (Prov.1:5), Grace and peace (11 Pet.1:2), Inheritance (11 Pet.1:3,4). But to succeed as a learner you must imbibe the following practices: Humility & Teach-ability (Matt.11:29; Ps.25:9; 1 Cor.8:2), Diligence (11 Pet.1:5, 11 Tim 2.15), Yearning (Matt.5:6), Sensitivity (Rev.1:10), Dependence on the Holy Spirit (Jn.16:13; 1 Cor.2:10), Prayer (Ps.119:18, Job.34:32).
8.Keep the Prayer Fire On
Prayer is a place of exchange of breakdown for breakthrough. A turn to God in prayer is what turns destiny around. It is never your turn to experience a turn around until you turn to God in prayer. “For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and supply of the spirit of Christ.” Phil.1:19
Revelation enriches & enfires prayer. When prayer lacks revelation it becomes wearisome and makes the one who prays to lose motivation. The revelation of the word is what keeps the fire of prayer ever burning; therefore throw more word into your prayers because God’s word is the wood that keeps the fire burning. Proverbs 26:20. Revelation is the fuel to intercession, praying in the Holy Spirit moves the Holy Spirit to bring to your remembrance relevant scriptures to the prayer items.
Being in the center of God’s will for your life is the greatest prayer.
This is what makes you a center of attraction. It is then that your prayer brings salvation (Jam.5:15, Ps.34:6, 17, 19), changes your stories (11 Chr.4:9, 10) and turns your captivity (Gen.32:24-29).
9.Keep Touching Lives
Men consider it a symbol of the good life to be served but Jesus says “But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant” Matt. 20:26-27. Never care for great compliments and rave reviews. Never seek for rewards. Never be bothered about who appreciate or do not appreciate you or your works. Just keep reaching out and touching lives. Your reward is sure to come. The lives you touch are the ones that will keep spreading the values of your life and ministry. The value you place on people defines the limit of value you get from them. When you devalue people you devalue their output because they will naturally perform to the proportion of your value for them. Only as you value people are you able to touch their lives and draw more value from them.
10.Set Goals to Get Goals
Only goal setters will ever become goal getter. What you set before your eyes is what you will get with your hands. If you stand for nothing you will fall for anything but as you intentionally set goals for yourself, goals attracts you, motivates you, stretches you, compels you to action and ultimately releases your potentials to fulfill destiny.
11.Never Touch God’s glory
God demands the glory and we require the blessings. Our blessings from Him are held down in heaven until His glory goes up from us. You are never due for your blessing until you give Him his due glory. If you don’t give Him his due glory, He’ll never give you your due blessing. Isa.42:8. Therefore give to Him what He demands and He will without fail release to you what you require.
God defends His glory. He is jealous of His glory. The only thing due to God is His glory. He has vowed not to give it to any other being – dead or alive. Ps.96:8; Is.42:8. That is why He demands for it. He is never interested in any other thing.
Beware! Don’t go close to God’s glory.
12.Stay off Sin
God endowed man with the good life in the very beginning of time. But man lost it when he committed sin. With sin came guilt, fear, pain and death. Sin is still the spoiler. “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile. Let eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.” I Pet. 3:10-11.
If you don’t want God to stay off you, stay off sin. If you must keep God with you, keep off sin. Withdraw your hand from sin if you don’t want God’s hand withdrawn from you. Don’t touch sin if you don’t want to be out of touch with God. Sin is a sinker! Sin is a weight, it hinders flight. It takes righteousness to put you right with God. You either love sin and hate God or love God and hate sin. When Samson will not withdraw from sin God withdrew from Him. He toyed with sin and became a toy in enemy’s hand. Hate sin to aim high. The lighter you are in righteousness, the higher you fly in life (Jos.7:10-13, Ex.19:11-14). Living clean is living in mobility and godliness.
We may never know all the ways in which the Lord fulfils His promises but one way is through the absolute wisdom of His instructions. He asks of us only those things that are good for us; and He forbids only those things that are harmful. Our health is better when we live the pure life that Jesus teaches. We are better off financially, for we are better workers and we no longer have to pay the expensive cost of sin. Finally life is better as we learn to think first of others. And regardless of the problems and troubles we still must face, we face them with Jesus and with the hope of heaven.
If you are not happy, if you are not at peace in your heart, if you are looking for a better life, why not let Jesus be “The Way” for you? Let Him take care of your problem of sin, which is the true cause of unhappiness in your life. Let Him be your guide in giving you new direction in this life!
He is the key to “the good life”! He said “…I am come that they might have life and that they have it more abundantly” Jn.10:10.
